Sarah Petersen, a native of Seattle and long-time resident of Portland, graduated from Marquette University with a Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude (History and Philosophy) in 1990. Sarah worked for 10 years with Portland investment management firms before moving to the Early Head Start Family Center of Portland, a non-profit serving low-income children and their families. While serving as Operations Manager at Early Head Start, Sarah had her first taste of Human Resources and labor relations issues, including an NLRB hearing, union election and contract negotiations. This experience motivated her to study labor and employment law.
Sarah received her Juris Doctor from Lewis and Clark Law School, where she was active in the Women's Law Caucus. She is a member of Oregon Women Lawyers, and she serves as Director of the Young Lawyers Section of the Multnomah Bar Association. Sarah co-authored a chapter of Interpreting Oregon Law, edited by Hon. Jack Landau, for the Oregon State Bar. Sarah has clerked at the Oregon Department of Justice's Family Law Division and with the Multnomah County Attorney's Office.
During each of her three years at Lewis & Clark, Sarah was honored for her community service achievements. Sarah serves on the Finance Committee and Strategic Planning Committee at Holy Redeemer Catholic School. She also donates her time to St. Mary's Academy, Holy Names Academy - Seattle, and serves as a mentor at Lewis & Clark Law School.
Sarah enjoys spending time camping or watching movies with her husband and their two daughters. Sarah's love of reading cookbooks and cooking for family and friends was passed down from her grandmother, a former food editor at The Oregonian.
