Prior to entering the legal profession, Devra Hermosilla worked for nearly a decade as a personnel specialist with a large aviation manufacturing company. This human resources background contributes to her unique perspective on the legal concerns of her employer clients.
Devra's practice focuses on both preventive counseling and employment litigation. On the preventive side, she advises employers in all aspects of employment relations in order to avoid employment lawsuits, including issues related to wage and hour compliance, discrimination, wrongful discharge, disability and leave laws, and implementing effective personnel policies. On the litigation side, Devra regularly defends employers against employee complaints before state and federal administrative agencies and in state and federal court. Her practice includes representing employers in alternative dispute resolution through negotiation, mediation, and arbitration.
As a fluent Spanish speaker, Devra offers individual and small-group employee training and investigatory interviews in Spanish.
Devra speaks at employment and training seminars and has co-authored compendiums on employment and workers' compensation laws in Washington and Idaho, and has authored local and nationally published articles. She is a member of the national and local Human Resources Management Associations, currently serving on the board of the Lower Columbia Human Resources Management Association. Devra is also a member of the Multnomah Bar Association's Equality Committee and Oregon Women Lawyers' Leadership Committee, and donates her time to school outreach and education programs.
During law school, Devra served on the Moot Court Alternative Dispute Resolution Board. She is a prior member of the Employment Practice Group of the American Law Firm Association, the Board of Directors for the Girl Scouts Inland Empire Council, the Diversity Committee of the Spokane County Bar Association, and the Northwest Equal Employment Opportunity/Affirmative Action Association.
Devra was named as a "Rising Star" in the 2009, Oregon Super Lawyers (Employment Litigation: Defense).
When she is not practicing law, Devra participates in local government, her children's school and sporting activities, and recreational roller derby.
