Akin Blitz's practice focuses on labor relations and employment advice and related client services, to public and private employers including; bargaining, labor contract administration, employee relations, discipline and discharge, practice before state and federal agencies, and preventive law/risk management and strategic advice including policy review and implementation.
Akin represents private employers, cities, counties and special districts throughout Oregon and Washington in all matters related to labor and employment and related municipal law issues. He is a board member of the Civil Rights Section Executive Committee of the Oregon State Bar. He works with associations and risk pools and provides pre-loss legal services and defense. Akin also serves as legal advisor to several police agencies and associations of police and municipal executive.
He worked in the Oregon Legislative Assembly during the sessions that coincided with his years at Willamette University. He has lobbied collaboratively and successfully with employers and associations on employment and law enforcement issues.
Akin enjoys cycling and alpine downhill skiing. He serves as a high school race official and as Vice President and Chairman of Risk Management for the Boy Scouts Cascade Pacific Council. His bearded collie, Annie, provides therapy and support to medically fragile children at Providence – Portland Medical Center, to patients at OHSU and Doernbecher Hospitals and to victims and witnesses of violence in connection with several law enforcement agencies. Their teamwork led to Annie’s induction into the Oregon Animal Hall of Fame.
